Pumpkin Patch Photos and Backgrounds

Fall, Holidays

The pumpkin patch is my favorite place to take photos because of all the great backgrounds and the fall colors. I have a lot of patch photos, but I will spare you, don’t worry. I will just focus on the backgrounds.
Sometimes the first step is just cropping out the background to focus on the subject. I wasn’t paying attention to the white thing at the top left because I was trying to get a shot of both of them (rare). Easy fix in iPhoto…
Cropped in a bit, and bumped up the color so it wasn’t so dull. I probably could have cropped in a little more.
Can’t forget to zoom out so we remember what the hay maze actually looked like! I liked the fence and cornfields as a top border. I cropped out an ugly Halloween character that was on the left. No need for that.
Love cornfields and the leading lines, even though the lines technically lead away from the subject here, but that’s okay. His stance here told me he was going to start running so…
I knelt down to get this shot. It really captures what he looks like at this age (always running somewhere), and the cornfields frame him perfectly because I got down low for the shot.
Corn bins are fun, but the location at the farm made for lots of “noise” in the backgrounds like the back of woman on the right near the other bin. Made it tough to actually see the corn.
I suppose you could blur the background and sharpen the corn, but I’m not a pro editor. I did crop in a bit and enhanced the color.
The yellow background makes him “pop”.
I have to always remind myself to zoom in and out with each shot. Zooming in got these little feet!
But it needed some cropping and color enhancement.
My college photo professor said to always look for patterns and repetition in backgrounds. He also liked rule of thirds (subject in one of the tic tac toe intersections, or in the higher or lower third of the photo), which I used here. Always a plus when you can use multiple photo composition elements!
Can’t beat the backgrounds at the pumpkin patch!
