Tea Table & Stools Tutorial

DIY, Room Design

My little girl has been loving her tea table and stools and I’m finally posting a tutorial on how to #makeityourown and upcycle to create a tea party corner.

Supplies:

  • Small table or stand
  • Stools
  • Gold spray paint
  • Regular paint (I used BB Frosch chalk paint powder with Benjamin Moore “Simply White” paint)
  • 1 yard of faux fur (I got mine at Hobby Lobby)
  • Staple Gun

The table is an old (like as far back as college ‘old’) plant stand that I had repainted for her nursery. You can find the details of that transformation here.

This time around I sprayed the metal with gold spray paint first – a couple coats with the pure gold (several light coats are better than thick coats) and then a final coat with the shiny metallic finish.

Then I painted the top white and sealed it with BB Frosch clear wax.

For the stools, I found these guys at Home Goods. I originally wanted metal stools, but I liked that these were really sturdy, and there were two so that helped!

I sprayed the bottom gold, same process as the table. I probably should have painted them with metallic gold for less chemical off-gassing, but I was in a bit of a hurry to finish the One Room Challenge. I kept them in the garage for a few weeks after I took photos.

Then I cut the faux fur to put over the top, which my cat barely gave it up.

I cut a circle a few inches bigger than the top, wrapped it underneath, and used a staple gun to secure it. I had to staple a few places on the sides because it was a little loose, but you can’t even see them in the fur.

It’s been a perfect tea party set-up!

The adorable floral tin tea set is from World Market. 964A3760I also made these flowers because I wanted to create a ‘tea party garden’ space and attach these on the walls with painted gold stems, but they ended up sticking out too far. But it’s okay, I will probably still use them in her closet. How cool would these look with painted gold stems?!

I still like the idea of garden tea party though – I might consider painting some flowers on the wall, but it might be too much…

But for now she’s enjoying it just as it is!
