I’ve been working on our command center and just finished this easy DIY memo board that I upcycled from my kids’ crib spring frame! I’m getting into spring cleaning and all things organization so this project has made me pretty happy, especially since it’s a piece of the kids’ crib, which was harder to give up than I thought! And guess what? No power tools required on this project – read on to see what I did!
I started with this burlap memo board that I got from Home Goods. It was the perfect size for the space, but I wanted it to be gray or white background so I attempted to paint it.
But that would have been too easy. As you can see, didn’t work out.
Another problem was that I really wanted to use clips and not push pins. I don’t want it to look cluttered since it will be in a fairly prominent place. There is something about symmetrical squares and lines that doesn’t look as cluttered.
Then I noticed my kids’ crib in the garage was exactly what I needed! (I want to use the wood for another project)
So I removed the backing on the memo board, which was easier than I thought!
I’m saving the burlap foam back to use somewhere else, maybe in one of the kid’s rooms. All I will need to do is cover it with some fabric.
But anyway, back to this project! I removed the springs on the crib frame. It was a little tough at first, but the clamp helped a lot.
I might come up with a use for the springs, too!
Meanwhile, my daughter was having a good time making some shapes.
Then we lined it up with the memo board frame and used some painter’s tape to mark where it needed to be cut. My hubby used wire cutters, and the best part was that he cut it a tad longer so then we didn’t even need to secure it. We pushed it in and there was enough resistance that it didn’t move.
Almost done!
I have metal organizers in this space already, so I sprayed it to match. Because it has to match, right?
And now it matches the space perfectly. Woot!
I got both the Happiness sign and hymn card when we went to Magnolia Market last year.
And the clips are from Michaels – love that industrial look!
I will be using this memo board for upcoming event reminders, photos, reminders, announcements, and anything pretty. 😉
Also, I’m wrapping up our command center and excited to share all those details soon!
Here is a handy pin to save this project for later!
