The reasoning behind the blog’s new name and look…
It’s been a gradual transition, but you may have noticed some changes around here. I’m excited to officially announce Pretty Healthy House and explain why I made the switch to the new name.
Background
When I started blogging in 2012, Time to DIY was a chronicle of my crafting adventures and a creative outlet when I was a SAHM after moving to Denver.
During that time our family was also hit with some significant health issues—a miscarriage, autoimmune complications, and cancer so I wasn’t always able to blog as consistently as I would have liked.
In 2015, we moved back to Southern California and had a new house to decorate! More summary here. I kept blogging, but then some more health challenges popped up.
I had moments where I just wanted to give up, but I felt like God was telling me to pause and take a different route, and that eventually lead me to Pretty Health House.
Lifestyle Changes
Over the last six years we’ve made some changes (healthier foods and more natural products) in response to our health challenges, and those have helped us not only feel better, but have improved our overall health.
Over the years I’ve felt like a fraud just blogging about home decor. Although I’m passionate about that, it’s not our story; Our story has been about recovery and wellness, and that’s the story I need to share.
PHH Meaning
I chose the name Pretty Healthy House because it combines two of my passions: a pretty house and a pretty healthy lifestyle. The goal and mission are to discuss simple ways to make your house a cozy and healthy home to feel better and live your best life.
Note the emphasis on ‘pretty’ healthy. We all know that we can’t live in a bubble and avoid all toxins. It’s about education and making choices about what’s most important to you.
Know that every household is different with different needs, and our way is certainly not the only or right way. Our journey is constantly evolving.
A Few Thank-You’s
Just a few shout-outs to those who helped me revamp my site…
My logo design was created by Suzy Everson – I had some design ideas, but Suzy really brought them to life and I just love her beautiful watercolor and designs.
My WordPress site theme is Anchored by Restored 316. Their user-friendly directions and customer support helped make the install less stressful. Bear with me as I’m still working out a few kinks with the design!
My bio photos were taken by Erika of Little Love Studios. She always goes above and beyond to get the best shots, and I love working with her.
And a really big thank-you to my husband John for stepping in with the web development when I was losing my mind with coding issues. He’s also the one who encourages and supports me to follow my heart, even when it’s scary and doesn’t always make sense.
And, finally, thank you to those of you who have been following along since the beginning! I so appreciate you!
Stay tuned for stories about our journey, simple projects and recipe ideas, and some discussion on natural approaches to cut down on those everyday toxins that sneak into your home.
Here’s to a Pretty Healthy House!
