Gah! I can’t believe it’s Week Five of my guest room makeover for One Room Challenge. We got a lot done this week, but we’ve still got a long to-do list so I’m a little nervous.
If you’re just joining in, here is my plan for the room, and this is what’s been happening week by week.
This week has been lot of the grunt work (wall painting, spray painting, desk painting, faux shiplap installation, TV cord hiding…I think that’s it.
We started with painting the walls with Sherwin Williams Alabaster.
My friend Gretchen is a rock star and had most of the room painted in the the time I put my kiddos to bed. Thank God for great friends who are willing to help!
She was trying to avoid the camera, but I wanted to give her a shout-out.
Then we went to Home Depot for some faux shiplap (aka, ripped plywood). I originally bought the wrong type, but will do a post on that later.
But before we could install the shiplap, we had to put a shoe on our baseboards since they weren’t wide enough for wall treatment.
I’ve been stressed about our baseboards because I didn’t want to reinstall new baseboards throughout the house, so I’m pleased that this worked. More on that later!
I also did some more spraying – love Rust-oleum’s new colors! This “warm metallic gold” is perfect! I’ve typically had to mix gold spray paints to get the right color, but this one is perfect as is, and just the right amount of shimmer.
And this new champagne pink is so gorgeous! I want to spray everything in this color.
I’m excited about how these are going to look in my new craft closet!
And then I painted my hot pink desk – I went with Dovetail by Sherwin Williams ProClassic. I love ProClassic for furniture, but more on that later.
I’m going to switch out that hardware to something gold, that I will likely spray paint. 😉
So the shiplap…I bought the wrong material and we painted all of them white and installed a few (and then realized it wasn’t going to work). Eek! But during that process I realized I didn’t want them white, and wanted to go for gray instead, so I painted them with Sherwin Williams Mindful Gray, and I’m liking the look!
I’ve got some strong opinions on the faux shiplap project that I will be sharing later! In a nutshell, it’s not as easy as I thought it would be (hence the pulled boards here). Ay yay yay.
My hubby also relocated the TV wires so they would sit behind the wall. He got a code-safe cord and he will fill you in on that later.
And here are a few other highlights…
My little helper – she loves accessorizing.
And this is what is left to do…
I know – it looks scary, doesn’t it? Send help.
But the highlight this week is that wallpaper arrived yesterday and I’m SO excited to get that up!
And as far as the rest of the room…I just keep looking at this.
If I say it enough times it will happen, right? Stay tuned for the full reveal NEXT week!
Be sure to check out the progress of the other guest participant makeovers and the designers as well. And if you haven’t seen it, here is my daughter’s blush and gold vintage glam room from last year’s One Room Challenge.
