I’m pretty excited that we’re 11 days from Christmas and in my usual style I’m still tinkering with Christmas decor, but I’ve wrapped up some shelfie styling that I wanted to share with you! I usually add some Christmas pieces to my everyday decor, but this year I decided to go all-Christmas on my shelves and I’m loving it.
I have a love/hate relationship with shelfie styling. I love it when it’s done, but hate the process because it always takes me awhile to get it just right. I set out with the intent to give you a how-to, but realized that my process is pretty all over the place so I’m just going to share a few tips instead!
Basic selfie styling tips in 4 easy steps:
- First, remove everything from the shelves to start with a clean slate.
- Then, shop your house (or a store, if you’re lucky) and put your decor in piles by category…signs, baskets, books, greenery, small and round stuff, etc. Set aside your faves.
- Next, start with your larger items first (preferably from your faves pile) – those are your “centerpieces”, and then fill in from there. Remember, less is more.
- Finally, balance out the decor with big/small, square/round, and different textures.
Here’s how I put mine together!
My centerpiece was my new “Schaefer Tree Farm” sign that my friend just made for us. Love it!
To balance it out, I added the basket with pillows at the bottom.
And since those were both rectangles, I included the three trees on the second shelf to add some shape and texture variation, and I especially like that they went with the “tree farm” theme.
Then I filled in the rest with a couple other things.
Then for the other side…
The JOY letters were my centerpiece for this side, and I put them on the top shelf so I could put the square sign (from Heather at Whipperberry) and boxwoods on the middle shelf to complement and balance the trees on the opposite side. AND I had two rectangular pieces on the top/bottom shelf on the opposite side, so it balances it out having a square sign on the middle shelf. It’s all about the balancing when it comes to shelfie styling!
The tray on the bottom cabinet is just a place holder until I get my new Willow nativity set – so excited about it! I also wanted the nativity to be a centerpiece, and that goes well with “Joy”.
I really can’t get enough of Christmas decor!
